Description

The Orthoceras, or “straight horn” is an extinct cephlapod from the Ordovican Period, around 400 million years ago.  These straight shelled nautiloids ranged in size from less than a centimeter to more than 14 feet long.  It is believed that like current day nautiloids such as squid and octopus, the Orthoceras was a predator, possibly eating little trilobites for a snack.

This Orthoceras measures 6.10 inches long and 1.61 inches wide.  Great piece.

This is the specimen you will receive.
