Description

Ammonites are cephalopods. They were predatory, squidlike creatures that lived inside coil-shaped shells.
Like other cephalopods, ammonites had sharp, beaklike jaws inside a ring of tentacles that extended forward from their shells.
Ammonites continually added on new shell segments as they grew, but only lived in the outer chamber.
Their method of locomotion was much the same as the modern day Nautilus that squirts water from jets in order to move backwards through the water.

Exceptionally preserved and polished Ammonite split pair shows exquisite detailed chambers.
Unique coloration. Black color on some of the internal chambers transitioning to  cream, sienna and other brownish coloration. Some of the internal chambers exhibit crystals within the voids.
Exceptional Ammonite Split pair. This is the fossil you will receive.

Ammonite is 4 3/8 long by 3 1/2 wide
